CursiveLogic and The Art of Cursive Review

We had the opportunity to review the CursiveLogic Quick-Start Pack and The Art of Cursive from CursiveLogic. I'm going to be honest... this is one of the reasons I joined the Homeschool Review Crew! They reviewed this when it was brand new a few years ago. Ever since then I've been waiting for the right time to buy it for my youngest. Well, we are really glad that we got to review it! If you're interested, check out the discount code towards the end of my review.

What is CursiveLogic?

We received two different items. The CursiveLogic Quick-Start Pack consists of one copy of the workbook and access to the instructional video. The workbook has thick, heavy pages with two laminated pages in the back for dry erase practice. It is full color with basic instructions throughout the book.

The lowercase letters are taught in four lessons, each lesson split into four days of work. The letters are grouped by similar shape so that a string or group of letters are all taught together. The uppercase letters are taught in six lessons, again with similar shaped letters grouped together. The method is intended for ages eight to adult. We are using it with a first grader. She has a little experience with cursive, and because she's younger we sometimes took five days to teach one lesson.

Spencerian Handwriting Review

This review is a little different. I was the only Crew member who reviewed this item, and I did it for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine®, LLC. You can find the review on their website.

We are a little bit enthusiastic about writing tools and penmanship. We’ve tried many methods of teaching cursive, and we’ve learned a few forms of calligraphy. When we were given the opportunity to review a new book, Spencerian Handwriting, The Complete Collection of Theory and Practical Workbooks for Perfect Cursive and Hand Lettering, my daughter and I were thrilled. We’ve dabbled in the Spencerian method, but never put much effort into it. We were hoping to learn the method, improve our cursive, and give you an idea of how this book could be used in your home.
The Spencerian method was originally printed in a series of books, the first was the primer and the others were workbooks. Spencerian was the handwriting standard in the 1800s. This book combines the primer (instructions) and workbooks in one.

Channie's Easy Peasy Cursive Review

This site contains affiliate links, which means I receive compensation if you make a purchase using these links.

My youngest (1st grade) is still learning cursive, and though she's doing quite well, she does need daily practice. When we were offered the opportunity to review one of Channie's Visual Handwriting & Math Workbooks, we chose the Easy Peasy Cursive one. This workbook looked different than any other cursive practice workbook I'd seen.

Channie's Easy Peasy Cursive Workbook

Channie's workbooks are unique because they offer a visual aspect to penmanship that is necessary for young learners, yet often lacking in penmanship instruction. In my experience of teaching my four children manuscript and cursive, they need to see someone form the letters so they know the correct way to move their pencil. They also need to see specifics about the size of the letters such as how tall or how far below the main line they reach.
