What a wonderful Christmas! I woke up by 6, my internal clock is still working well. I was going to start baking breakfast (which was already prepared and in the fridge), when I discovered the butterscotch rolls did not rise overnight. So I put them in a warm oven and went back to bed. About an hour later when everyone was up I started baking them and the egg casserole. We had oranges, egg nog, and orange juice with those two things (and enough food for breakfast for two more days!)

Weekly Recap: The End of the Year
Last week I forgot to include a little about our last homeschool day of the year. It was a science lesson and we learned about magnets. It was fun to experiment!

Week 51: 52 Weeks of Photos
When my youngest, N, was just a tiny toddler, my oldest, M, wore this Native American dress as a Halloween costume and wore N on her back (not the whole night, just for part). They were Sacagawea and Jean-Baptiste. Today N wore the Native American costume and wore her doll in a child's mei tai (that I can't remember the brand of). Children really do grow up too fast!
Also, we love listening to Christmas music. This is one of our favorite versions of O Come, Emmanuel. It's played by The Piano Guys with Bible videos as the video. Enjoy!

Weekly Recap: The Beginning of December
What an exciting week! Last weekend we decided to purchase a new Christmas tree. Our 15 year old tree is still in great shape, but we've lived in this house over 7 years and made do with what we have. It's a lovely tree, but it's too tall and wide for the living room here. We have to bend the top down and smash it into the space. I never worried about the tree tipping, but I did worry about a dent in the sheet rock!
We prefer an unlit tree so we were limited in our choices, but I had found one that we all liked. After we brought it home we put out all our Christmas decorations. That night my husband and I did a bit of online Christmas shopping. On Sunday he had to go to bed at 6 p.m. to be ready for his busier schedule with Christmas hours at his second job.

Weeks 1 and 2: 52 Weeks of Photos
I've decided to attempt a photo-a-week project this year. This is something I've been thinking about this past week, so I'm a little late at saying it is a project for 2016. So today I am including two topics in this first post, and taking the easy route with pictures that are now 2 weeks old.
Kids and Pets
These pictures are from Christmas. My two youngest got new dress-ups from Ikea. My sister's dog wasn't too sure about the bat that suddenly appeared in the living room! Or else she was thrilled to see a bat appear in the living room. I'm really not sure.

Instagram and school catchup!
Here's what we've been up to the past few weeks!
Christmas decorating got a lot easier this year. My boy put up the tree!!
This one made lunch from her reading curriculum. Warren the pig is a chef and my kids gave his recipes two thumbs up! From All About Reading level 4.

A Savior Is Born - #ASaviorIsBorn
I just love the Christmas season! The smells, the warmth, the neighbors, family, the treats...
Most of all though, I love the reason that we celebrate this season, the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. No greater gift exists or has ever existed than the gift our Heavenly Father sent, His son who would sacrifice his life for every single one of us. "He gave his life to atone for the sins of all mankind." There are no words to adequately explain my gratitude or amazement. He was born so I can be forgiven of my mistakes and overcome my shortcomings to live with my family, my God, and my Savior throughout all eternity.
This year my church has a new video and image each day to commemorate this sacred event. The videos have been good but I am awed by today's video. Please take a few minutes to watch. This song has been sung by a handful of other great artists (all of which I've been listening to this morning!), but I think this is my new favorite.

There are a few videos at the top of the page, which are great to watch as well, but the music videos are a little farther down. You're looking for Day 10.
Also, because I am so proud of my children and their budding little testimonies of Jesus Christ, here's a re-blog of my post from last Christmas. You should hear them sail through this now. Merry Christmas! #ASaviorIsBorn

For a long time I have wanted to incorporate memorization into our day. I still remember poems and sayings that hung on the wall in my grandmother's house. We started by memorizing scriptures (Scripture Mastery), and finishing up the Articles of Faith for my 3rd child. Then I had the inspiration to do this.
I wish I wrote down the date that we started, we think it was 8-10 months ago. I wondered if we could do it, this is a lot to ask kids to remember! We realized we'd have it complete by Thanksgiving, and as we began the last two paragraphs, the kids would sit in sacrament meeting working on a line or two. They are amazing, they want to do The Family Proclamation next.
As our contribution to the #sharethegift invitation this Christmas, we present The Living Christ.
Merry Christmas! May we all grow closer to our Savior as we remember him and as we share the love with those around us.
