Free Schroth Bean Bags Pattern

My daughter does Schroth physical therapy to help with her scoliosis. Her therapist has taught her which size of bean bags are right for her and where to place them.

Our favorite material to use for these is a sturdy material, something like a giant bean bag seat from the 1970s is made of. It has a vinyl outer and a soft back. Other less sturdy fabrics and materials don't work as well, they just don't hold their shape  which is really important for the wedge shaped bean bags.

Schroth Bean Bags Pattern

The instructions are on each pattern. The large wedge pattern will need to be taped together.

These patterns are based off a hand drawn pattern our therapist had. We adjusted and modified and included what we found works best. Please feel free to use this pattern to make your own bean bags or to donate to your local Shriner's Hospital for Children or other facility with Schroth trained therapists.

Weekly Recap: With Thanksgiving and Christmas

Happy New Year! I need to catch up on the end of the previous year, so here we go!

Daddy got new tires on his van, thanks to Black Friday sales they were a great price! We enjoyed Thanksgiving and Christmas and spending time with family. Both my husband and M have spoken in sacrament meeting during the past month. I put together some Christmas stories into a Christmas program outline for our church, and each group created a skit for their story. J was the ghost of Christmas present, M was the child who gets on the Polar Express, and I was Santa in 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. New Year's Eve was a fun night as well, with spinach artichoke dip and vegetables, and pigs in a blanket made from Little Smokies. We watched National Treasure and Snowball Express, and some kids stayed up late enough to also watch Groundhog Day with Dad.

Each year my brother and sister buy my family tickets to an experience of some sort - the zoo, aquarium, etc. Last year they gave us cash and instructions to choose. We had a dinner and play picked out, then something came up and we weren't able to go. When The Forgotten Carols tickets went on sale, I bought seats right away and we surprised the kids! Everyone had a great time, but it started so late.. we didn't get home until 11 p.m. That was rough, but the play was memorable.

Weekly Recap: With the scan and the crabs

Whew, when do we get to slow down for a minute?

J has been doing service projects almost every day this week. He and the other boys his age at church planned this to help ward members. He's been such a good example!

E got a fixed retainer put in her lower jaw to help hold things as the rest of the baby teeth fall out, before she can get braces.

M was scanned for a new brace. She'll be getting it in a few weeks. It was really neat to see how a 3D scan is done.

Weekly Recap: With the scoliosis check-up

Well, fishing club has ended, and the other two kids caught their fish on the last day. It was a fun experience and the kids learned a lot. If you ever have the opportunity to join your city's local youth fishing club, we recommend it!

Weekly Recap: With the Week Before Christmas

We tried to catch up on some school lessons this week and succeeded! One child is not ahead in math like they'd like to be, but they are on schedule now.

In keeping with this week's Review Crew linkup, I want to mention a book we found recently through one of our Family School lessons. It has turned out to be a favorite- I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day The book is lovely and comes with a CD to narrate the story, but you can also watch the video here.

Weekly Recap: With the computer and the braces

Whew! Last week was a busy one! It started out with a history lesson about the gold rush on Monday. M received a surprise, a brace for her American Girl doll. We had a Family Home Evening lesson on the story about eating with the pigs.

Tuesday we had our first literature lesson on the book Amos Fortune, Free Man. My sister's computer started having problems, so I attempted to help her figure that out and fix it.

Bones and Growing and Trouble

It's gotten easier to talk about this as time has passed, but it's still difficult to think about how life has completely changed.

October 16th. A little cold bug was going around and M was feeling a bit congested. She asked me to rub essential oils on her back before she went to bed. Usually my husband handles this, but he's been going to bed earlier to get up for his second job, so I did it. I immediately noticed that her spine curved to the right. Because of her age and because of respect for our children's privacy, I wondered how long it had been like this. I'm grateful to other mothers I've "met" online who have reassured me that it's easy to miss, even for people who have experience with scoliosis.
