Our First Day of Homeschool | #LIGHTtheWORLD

Today I want to share a very personal story. I love using the scriptures and church magazines to find answers to my prayers and problems. I have received inspiration from the Holy Ghost many times in this way. My favorite time to search is during the sacrament in sacrament meeting on Sunday. This story is about one of those times.

I had been homeschooling my third child during her preschool year. We began homeschooling her for reasons specific to her needs, and she thrived! She accomplished more than we ever expected her to, and we began to feel a desire to homeschool all three children the following year. My husband and I discussed it often. A friend had sent me a message about The Family School, which was an answer to our prayers in its own way, and we had decided the day we would visit their school and pull them out. I felt nervous and inadequate, after all, the majority of the responsibility falls on my shoulders. I had no idea if I could teach them all the things they needed to know.

One Sunday I prayed during the Sacrament and then flipped through my scriptures.  They fell open to this page and verse. Doctrine & Covenants 88:77-80

I read that and felt a wave of comfort come over me. I could teach those things! The curriculum we had chosen would help me teach history, geography, social studies, and so much more that was mentioned in those verses! There were many other personal revelations during that time that had built my confidence and guided me in what our family should do, but these verses really stood out to me. I regard them as a major part of our purposes for homeschooling.

We jumped right in and haven't looked back! I am so grateful for the influence of the Holy Ghost in my life. Please visit Mormon.org to see how you can #LIGHTtheWORLD this Christmas season.
