Weekly Recap: Without the braces

We had a busy week, but it was a lot of fun! My husband had to work last weekend, so he only came to the first part of church with us. There was a great lesson on Nurturing the Eternal Partnership of Marriage in my class, and one of the sisters mentioned something she has found that has been a huge benefit in her family. When a child gets married, she contacts both the child and their spouse when discussing something, rather than just her child. It has made a huge difference in unifying the new couple and creating a happy extended family. I thought about that and realized that I already do that in most situations (siblings, I don't have married children yet!), but I'm going to make an effort to do it always. I also thought about how it makes me feel when family and parents do that to me and how much I appreciate it. I wish that all of our extended family would do that though. The entire lesson was great, but that was one tidbit I shared with my husband after, and he agreed that it makes a huge difference.

Wait, what is eternal marriage? In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we have the opportunity, if we choose, to be married for "time and all eternity" rather than "till death do we part", just like Adam and Eve were married. Here is a great link about what it all means and why someone would want that. And if you are still intrigued, check out this link: Marriage

By the way, because of the possibility of an eternal marriage, anyone who chooses can also be with their family members again after death. What a great blessing for everyone, especially we who ache from the loss of a loved one. Watch this video about Our Heavenly Father's Plan.

We've had trouble this summer with motivation and getting responsibilities done. So my husband and I decided we'd plan fun activities and if you are done and ready, you get to come along. Last week my husband took some children on a hike. They found a sagebrush lizard and a rubber boa, the first time some of them had seen that snake! M participated in Piano Camp - special days of group lessons that her piano teacher arranges. She had a lot of fun, and tried to teach her siblings the things she learned!

The most exciting thing this week was M getting her braces off! Look at that smile!

My kids decided they wanted to make cookies for our 4th of July barbecue so they spent Saturday afternoon working on that. After doubling the batch and baking them all, we decided they had made huge cookies so they made another batch and made each cookie tiny. I think they are the perfect size now! Thank goodness the store only had the massive bag of red, white, and blue M&Ms available. And... now I have a full cookie jar too.

  2. Interesting idea about contacting the child and the child-in-law. I never thought about that before!

Hard to believe M had those braces on for almost two years, I thought it was much shorter!

And those cookies were delicious. :)
