A few days ago, my college age daughter asked, "Aren't you starting school next week?"
After checking the calendar, I replied, "Oh! Yes we are!"
I guess I should get some things finalized!
Last year we were still under construction when school started. As it turns out, I only have video of the room completed and populated with furniture. These are a couple of the photos I took after the carpet was put in. (We started moving furniture later that day!)
This room is now our living room, music room, and school room.
My oldest is going to university and majoring in math and minoring in music. Yay for alliteration!
My second is leaving in a few months to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He'll be in Texas.
10th Grade
I can't believe she's only got three more years of school before she graduates!
Math: Saxon Algebra 2, with the Mastering Algebra DVDs from Art Reed.
Government & Economics: Uncle Eric Series: Are You Liberal? Conservative? or Confused?; Ancient Rome; Evaluating Books; and The Money Mystery.
Science: Berean Builders Biology
History: Family School Restoration, Expansion, and the Civil War
Geography: Family School South America
Art: Family School Early American Art; Art history using The Master and His Apprentices
Music: Family School Year 5
Electives: We're counting the double art as an elective, but she'll also be doing some logic, beginning with The Fallacy Detective. There are a couple of other short logic courses after that one.
7th Grade
That's middle school! Really though, why do kids grow up so quickly?
Summer: Over the summer, she and I completed the new Weather and Water science unit from The Good and the Beautiful. It was okay. I still think that their science units could have more informative lessons and in depth info, and that definitely held true for this unit. We added to it where it was weak. They have two levels of Student Journals in their science units, and I think the 7-8 Journal is great with its extra information, but it's just extra reading. That's good for these grades, but they don't add any higher level activities. I prefer the 7-8 Journal for 5th grade and up...the 3-6 Journals are very simplified...more like 1-4th grades. At this point, their only science that I'll use again is a quick review of their Maturation & Reproduction Unit.
Math: Saxon 8/7 with the Mastering Algebra DVDs from Art Reed.
Science: Family School Anatomy & Physiology; The Good and the Beautiful Maturation & Reproduction
History: Family School Restoration, Expansion, and the Civil War
Utah History: This will be her first course (besides math) to complete on her own. She will read the book, outline the chapters, create a timeline, create maps, and complete chapter reviews. This is a great age to begin this study method, which will be used throughout the rest of her life.
Geography: Family School South America
Art: Family School Early American Art
Music: Family School Year 5
Typing: Typesy.com
Remember last year when I mentioned this product from Bravestorming? We love it for scheduling the school day! My youngest has been asking to start school early for many weeks now, and when we went over her subjects and daily work, this was the first thing she prepared. So, yes it's been worth it!
