The authors, Pearl and Serene, have been researching health and weight loss for many years. The say their first book took 5 years and the second came out 3 years later. Before the books they researched and tried many other ways of eating. They share their experiences and knowledge in the plan book. What's most interesting is they are exact opposites in their methods of food preparation. Serene is more of a food purist, making her own sourdough bread, kefir, and never using a microwave. Pearl prefers convenience. Their own differing approaches show that this way of eating can work for anyone, and they take time to explain many different options of meals.
Trim Healthy Mama Plan is easy to read. There are so many meal and snack ideas in the book that you can do the plan without anything else, just read the chapters with a notebook or highlighter. But they are also advertising for their own products, so you see a lot of mention of their food line and cook book. Explanations on how to choose the best products, even if not purchasing from them, are an appreciated addition. Their Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook is mentioned a lot, most of the menu plans they suggest would require it.
The plan is not just about loosing weight, it's about becoming healthier. A revved up metabolism can really help a person feel better in everything they do! Understanding the basics of the plan helps you start eating the THM way, reading the whole plan book helps you know how to fire up your metabolism and what it will do for you. The authors also help the reader understand how various fears can cause too much stress in our lives. Information is included about eating on plan while pregnant or nursing, and for pre- or postmenopausal women. Also included is plenty of information about children's food needs, and tips for men who may want to try the plan.
What's different from the first book?
There is not so much chit chat as there was in the first book, but this one is still written in the sister's fun style. I do feel in some places the book was more wordy than it needed to be. I think the different meal types are explained better in this book, with more emphasis placed on Fuel Pull foods and meals than before. I appreciated the page about Fuel Stacking.. something I've already found can easily trip a person up. The extra information in the last section about conflicting diet theories is very helpful.Overall, the updated plan book is an improvement and a great place to start your Trim Healthy Mama journey.
This book was sent to me by Blogging For Books for the purpose of review but the opinions are my own.
