Weekly Recap: Back to School in January!

Last Saturday I finished my yearly reading of the Book of Mormon. I love getting to the end. This year I prayed to know of the truth of the book again, and I received a very gentle, very quiet reminder that confirmed the truth that I already knew. Some things that stood out to me specifically, or maybe they're just my favorites:
  • Gifts of the Spirit: The gifts all come from God and will be given to everyone who accepts them, but the gifts will be given in different ways. I love that these gifts are reflected in multiple places throughout the scriptures.
    1. Moroni 10:8-18
    2. Moroni 10:24-32
  • Moroni's promise: Anyone who reads the Book of Mormon is challenged to ask God if it is true. It's a powerful promise, and for those who take the challenge, a powerful confirmation awaits.
    1. Moroni 10:4-5
This all reminded me of the verse in D&C 6:36 that says "Look unto me in every thought, doubt not, fear not." I do know that if we look to the Lord in everything we'll be able to trust His plan and not be afraid of anything.

Saturday was also the day we slaughtered our chickens, and went shopping with our Christmas money. We went to four different stores and made ourselves so tired that we ordered pizza for dinner!

Sunday was church, and my son made doughnuts that afternoon.

Monday was our last day of holiday before we got back to school and work. I went to lunch with my husband. After we got home, he showed us some of his pictures of his mission in Tennessee. We had a Family Home Evening lesson on the article Aiming at the Center, complete with a bull's-eye on the window and Nerf guns.

Lunch at Blue Lemon

Tuesday we were back to school! It went great, everyone was busy and got work done on time. Our Literature lesson was about the characters in Carry On, Mr. Bowditch who helped Nat "sail by ash breeze."

I Spy Pillow

Wednesday's science lesson was about magnets again and we had fun experimenting with pushing an pulling a car with a magnet taped on top by using the magnetic field and another magnet. I did a training session for the review crew, and started making my youngest child an I Spy Pillow. I had made them for my other kids when they were toddlers, but by the time my fourth was old enough for one I figured she'd use the others. Of course now she wants her own! My oldest made some dresses for her sister's dolls, complete with aprons! She also got to go ice skating again. I posted my first review of the year.

Review of The Children's Bible

Thursday was a little calmer, and our geography lesson was about the boundaries in North America and how they have changed over time. We all made our own maps for Canada, the USA, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Friday was an art lesson about the counter-reformation, and we learned about the works of Bernini and Caravaggio. It has been incredibly cold, and we walked around with blankets on again today. But I had to go grocery shopping, so we went out and braved the ice!

It's COLD!!!

    1. I did not go skating! I used to love it, and even pulled out my rollerblades a few times last summer, but I don't think I'd do very well on the ice anymore! Mom on crutches doesn't appeal to me :)

  2. Lots of fun! I haven't been skating in many years, and I don't plan to. I used to love skating, but as you say - mom on crutches is not a good thing. ;-)
