Curriculum Choices 2021-2022

I have had most of our school stuff ready for a couple of months, but while going over the last things I need to be ready to begin our school year, I decided to get this post done.

Planning high school is more stressful than the younger grades, but it's fun to see what my kids want to learn about. The biggest difference this year is that I'm only planning for three kids. Our oldest graduated in May and is planning her own path for college! Which reminds me I really need to post about the end of our previous school year.

A lot of our books are not pictured, and I did link some things. IEW and spelling links are affiliate links. 

Other things that my kids do are piano, P.E. (various activities, exercise videos, free play, archery), and XtraMath for the younger children.

11th Grade

My son has two years of high school left and we're planning courses to fill in the credits he needs and adding interests for electives. He's trying a new science program this year and I hope it works out. This is his 9th year homeschooling.

Math: Saxon Advance Math - Geometry with Advanced Algebra with Art Reed videos 
Language Arts: IEW Structure and Style for Students Level C Year 1, IEW High School Essay Intensive, AHS Online High School Literature (The Inspired Age of Exploration, Beowulf, Carry On, Mr. Bowditch, Henry V, Poetry, Robert Frost, The Scarlet Letter)
Science: Berean Builder's Discovering Design with Chemistry
Government & Economics: Uncle Eric: The Clipper Ship Strategy & The Thousand Year War; Cliff's American Government
Logic: The Fallacy Detective
Music Appreciation: Shades of Sound
Electives: AHS Online Family Science; Computer Technology; Norse and Greek Mythology; Drafting 1: Mechanical.
He'll also take the ACT this year.

8th Grade

This is my daughter's 10th year homeschooling. We're starting to focus on more in depth courses and we're counting credits for practice, though we don't officially start tracking high school credits until next year.

Math: Saxon Algebra 1/2 with  Art Reed videos
Language Arts: IEW Structure and Style for Students C, Year 1; Fix It! Grammar 5; English from the Roots Up
Science: Berean Builder's Science in the Atomic Age
Health: THM Intermediate (I'm interested to see how this works out.)
Computer Technology: CompuScholar Digital Savvy
She'll also take a Career Test this year.
Literature, History, Geography, Music, Art: AHS Online Family School (parent led). This year we're studying scripture stories, Beatrix Potter, The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe, As You Like It, Poetry, Antarctica, Australia, the Pacific Islands, Renaissance & Baroque Art, the New World, and various composers and music topics. 

5th Grade

I actually had to go back and change that... I originally marked her grade as 4th! It's a strange feeling watching your youngest child get older. She's so much more independent than ever before, and I have to find things for myself to study or read while the children work because they don't need nearly as much of my help anymore!

Math: Saxon 6/5

Language Arts: IEW Structure and Style for Students Level A Year 2; Fix It! Grammar 2; All About Spelling level 6 and level 7

Literature, History, Geography, Science, Music, Art: AHS Online Family School (parent led). This year we're studying scripture stories, Beatrix Potter, The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe, As You Like It, Poetry, Antarctica, Australia, Cytology, Botany, the Pacific Islands, Renaissance & Baroque Art, the New World, and various composers and music topics. 

It's nice that we can afford some extras that we couldn't afford when we began homeschooling, and this year I bought some cell models to go with our Cytology unit and made some flashcards and games. Hopefully the models can help the older kids when they need them in science, too. By the way, these 4D animal and plant cell models are really nice! The bacteria one is okay, but it works for what we need.
