How We Homeschool: Dad! (Blogging Through the Alphabet)

For the letter D I've chosen to blog about Dad! Even though the majority of the responsibility of my children's home education falls on my shoulders, my husband is an important part of our homeschool.

The children show some of their work to Dad when he comes home each day. This gives them a chance to explain what they've learned, which helps with retention, and stays updated on what we are studying. He will often ask questions about things the child is working on, such as completing work without wasting time, keeping their areas clean, not forgetting to practice piano, etc. The kids enjoy asking him about facts they've learned to see if he knows as much as they do! My youngest likes to read to Dad. I like that she gets extra reading practice with someone besides me.

Sometimes when we plan days off of school, Dad takes the day off of work to spend time with us. We like to go to the zoo or other fun places with him. We are lucky to have him work near our home so we get to see him for lunch every day. It's nice to check in with each other in the middle of the day.

It is my husband's responsibility to help out with P.E. for our kids. When it's warm out, he'll get them up early and take them running with him. We often go on bike rides on the weekends or when Dad has a day off. He takes them out front to play basketball some evenings. Recently he's begun teaching the older kids how to properly use weights, good form for planking, push-ups, and other strength training. I've observed some fun jump rope contests too!

He checks in on me to see how I'm doing each day, and provides foot rubs at the end of a long day. He's always there to support me when I need, and to listen when we have a hard day. He works hard to support our family and provide us with everything we need. We love Dad!
