Family School: The Family School has undergone an exciting update! Their new website is more user friendly than ever, and their curriculum is easier to use too. It's no longer called Year 5, but that is what we are all doing together. It consists of: The Gospel is Restored (history), Adversity & Blessings (literature), Anatomy & Physiology (science), Central & South America (geography), Early American Art, and Music - Impossible to Silence! M will be using some of the high school level electives, this year she picked Family Science.
9th Grade: M
We have a high school student this year! I've been preparing for this but it's still a shock. She will attend seminary with some other homeschool students. We were so happy to find an early morning class!
Math: Saxon Algebra 1 with Mastering Algebra John Saxon's Way by Art Reed. I've been following Art Reed's recommendations in the book Using John Saxon's Math Books and this is where she should be. We love these DVDs to go along with the lessons.
Writing: Teaching Writing Structure and Style and High School Essay Intensive. We've got two years of the IEW writing method down and I am going to have her try doing the teacher DVDs. We're also going to base writing assignments off of other curriculum (history, literature, geography, science, etc.). Once we get to the essay units she'll do the first portion of High School Essay Intensive again (read our review here).

Spelling: Phonetic Zoo B & C
Electives: Digital Savvy from CompuScholar. We've been using this course since March for a review and we are working through it still. We love the course and hope to be able to use other courses from CompuScholar in the future.
Uncle Eric Books: Personal, Career, & Financial Security, Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?, and Whatever Happened to Justice? along with their Bluestocking Guides.
Photography: Digital Photography Complete Course is a 20 week book that teaches photography and basic editing skills.
Piano: We've been fortunate enough to have M take lessons from one of her youth leaders and hope to continue. Helpful tip: she offers some cute downloads to help piano teachers and students, as well as a Muscle Builders technique booklet set that she wrote! You can download them or purchase paperback books. 7th grade: J

Piano: Hoffman Academy He has completed all of the available lessons, so he waits for a new one to be released and learns it, in between learning songs of his (and my) choice.
4th grade: E
Math: She will use Saxon 5/4 this year. She also uses XtraMath for facts practice, in addition to what is included in Saxon.
Writing: Fables, Myths, & Fairy Tales. She's happy to be using IEW full time this year!
Grammar: It's a big year for E. She's also beginning official grammar lessons using Fix It! Grammar 1.
Spelling: She is using All About Spelling Level 4 and will begin All About Spelling Level 5 in late October.
Piano: Hoffman Academy She's doing well with this and is my only child to use the premium features (which we LOVE!).
1st Grade: N
I had a sad incident this summer. I sold my Saxon K set! I had to remind myself it's not intended to be a collection (I had K - Algebra 1), and the child who is going to use it this fall is going to have a great time with it, especially since I had all the extras saved and organized for each lesson. But it was time, no need to store books we surely won't use again.
Math: She will start with Saxon 1 this year, and move on to Saxon 2 at the beginning of 2018. She will start using XtraMath for facts practice, in addition to what is included in Saxon.
Writing: Writing With Ease 1
Penmanship: Cheerful Cursive. She started this during the previous school year and we like how it teaches cursive to a young child. After she completes this she'll use Pentime 2.
Grammar: I'm not too worried about her doing every page of this book, but English for the Thoughtful Child is a great supplement to Writing With Ease, and it teaches the basics of grammar with some writing included.
Spelling: She's excited to start spelling lessons using All About Spelling Level 1.
Reading: N worked hard over the last weeks of summer break to finish All About Reading Level 2, so she will start Level 3 when school begins.
Piano: Hoffman Academy So much fun, and a great method for this child. She begs for a premium account, but I cannot afford it right now. We only have one because we supported the Kickstarter campaign.
Whew. Get ready, get set.... it's almost time to go!
I don't know how you can keep everyone's books straight. It boggles the mind with so many options!
ReplyDeleteWould you believe that I have a very simple set of books compared to many other homeschoolers? Can you imagine also having a science, history, geography, etc. set per child, on their level?! That's why I love Family School... 6 subjects that I can teach to everyone at once. I really only have math and language arts separate.
